Absolutely FABulous: Collecting and celebrating faculty-authored books

In 2019, the University of Connecticut (UConn) Library began systematically collecting faculty-authored books (FABs). We envisioned collection as a service—a program to capture and celebrate faculty work ensure that their intellectual contributions were represented in library’s collections. Under leadership our new dean, we crafted communicated jargon-free parameters, collaborated with liaison librarians book vendors purchase more than 220 FABs, communications staff pursue events marketing publicize this area. UConn is large public research university 30,000 students 1,500 full-time who publish scores yearly, so FAB service resonated senior administrators alike. Though are adjusting COVID-19 pandemic’s impact, FABs have become signature initiative for Library.
